Soaps are necessary for getting our body clean and fresh. When it comes to using soap a large number of us prefer to use soaps that are made to help fight and protect us from bacteria.
Most of us prefer antibacterial soap but research has shown that these soaps are made from known carcinogenic substances that can cause cancer.
One common substance in antibacterial soap is triclosan, however, this compound has to be discovered to promote the growth and development of cancer cells.
As a matter of fact, recent studies conducted by Kyung-Chul Choi and his team of researchers at the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology and at the National University in South Korea have exposed the harmful effects of triclosan, particularly on our hormonal system.
This is because triclosan in itself is a hormone disruptor and has been seen to mimic estrogen in other studies conducted. By so doing it negatively influences the activities as well as the production of testosterone and other such hormones.
In the case of breast cancer, triclosan is believed to adversely influence the body’s endocrine system which then leads to cellular mutation.
Another compound used in antibacterial soaps is octyl phenol and this too is known to be carcinogenic on nature.
The risk of breast cancer is heightened if triclosan and octyl phenol are used in the production of antibacterial soap as they both cause cellular mutation in lab condition animal tests and also in humans.
Believe it or not, pressure groups have been waxing lyrical about the harmful effects of triclosan on humans, some of these groups like the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and Beyond Pesticides have always been silenced by the large corporations producing these soaps.
However, these pressure groups with the support of regulatory bodies have led to some manufacturers producing soap without the inclusion of triclosan.
