Mysterious bruises were all over one girl’s legs. Her parents after seeing them in the morning took their daughter to the nearest hospital right away. The doctors diagnosed that to be a very rare disease called ‘’purpurafulminans’’.
The girl we mentioned is named Bo and she is 4 years old from England. She got chicken pox, but something was wrong when she got them – she started having trouble with walking. And that is when her parents noticed that something is wrong. As days were passing by everything was getting worse and worse. One day Bo woke up with bruises all over her legs. And as you know the story her parents took her to the hospital and she was diagnosed with purpurafulminans.
What actually is purpurafulminans?
It is a rare disease where there is discoloration of the skin and there is blood clotting. To be more specific it is a rare syndrome of intravascular thrombosis and hemorrhagic infraction of the skin that is rapidly progressive and is accompanied by vascular collapse and disseminated intravascular coagulation. It can end up fatal within a couple of hours.
After Bo got diagnosed with this rare disease, the doctors told her parents that she might lose both of her legs. The parents were shocked. The doctors tried everything that is in their power to save Bo, from giving her number of medications to giving her grafts and plasma transfusions. And luckily for Bo, she started getting better because of that and she didn’t lose her legs. She was in a wheelchair for some time, then after some period she started walking again.
